When I first saw this competition, the first thing to cross my mind was "Oh, those lucky dogs who have a chance!" Then I proceeded to close the window, and I didn't give the competition a second thought for a while. Recently, I have been thinking about the value of creativity. In my opinion, creativity is a big part of an art piece. Although I am inspired by those who have perfect technical ability, I also enjoy seeing a piece that makes you think, but most of all, one that makes you smile. I love art because it brings me joy, and hopefully, I can make others smile too! I hope you enjoy my entry!
In this piece, I drink Dr. Pepper how most people do - with the bottle in my hand and a smile on my face! I have one difference though...I also drink it with my IMAGINATION! The thing I wanted to share in my piece is how Dr. Pepper makes my feel. With all of those bubbles dancing across your tongue, you can't help but to trigger your imagination! This entry is my imagination! This is what the inside of my mind looks like when I drink Dr. Pepper! (I know, scary, right?) I tried to incorporate both the whimsical side of the human brain, (the top half of the piece, because who doesn't love Dr. Pepper dripping down from giant bottles in the sky?) as well as the calculating side (the gears on the lower half.)
I also wanted to make a picture that would make a good mural. I wanted to have dark outlines, and colors that would be instantly recognizable from FAAAR away! I wanted it to be not only something that other artists will appreciate, but something that kids can look at, and smile. I wanted to create something that could really, truly be enjoyed by all!
This piece was made with a normal 2B pencil, 4 sizes of inking pens (brush tip, 1 mm, .8 mm, and .5 mm) Prismacolor markers, Crayola colored pencils, and a white out pen. (And determination, caffeine, and a bizarre imagination, of course!)
The original looked A MILLION TIMES better than this scan, but hey, what can you do?
I really hope you like my entry, I put A LOT of thought into it!!! And to think, the whole thing starts with a bottle opener!
